The Anna Lindh Foundation is an international Euro-Mediterranean organization founded in 2005 to promote intercultural dialogue, cooperation, and mutual understanding between societies across Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. Headquartered in Alexandria, Egypt, it was established by the governments of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership and named after the assassinated Swedish foreign minister Anna Lindh.
The foundation works through a network of more than 4,000 civil society organizations across over 40 countries. Its programs focus on youth engagement, education, culture, media, peacebuilding, and combating intolerance and stereotypes through dialogue and collaboration.
Since January 2025, the Candid Foundation has served as Head of the German Network of the Anna Lindh Foundation. In this role, it represents the foundation at international forums, including the 2025 forum in Tirana, while facilitating inter-network meetings, workshops, and communication within the network through newsletters, websites, and online exchange formats.
The Civil Society Academy is an FFO-commissioned project currently implemented by the Candid Foundation within the framework of its role as Head of the German Network of the Anna Lindh Foundation.
The project aims to strengthen relations within the Arab networks of the Anna Lindh Foundation, create spaces for debate on contemporary key political, social, and economic challenges faced by civil society organizations and stakeholders in the Arab world and the broader Euro-Mediterranean region, while fostering dialogue, mutual understanding, and collaborative action. In addition, it promotes innovation by encouraging new ideas, partnerships, and cooperative approaches, with the goal of opening up new fields of collaboration and strengthening the overall capacity, resilience, and impact of civil society work in the region.
In 2025, the Candid Foundation held the first edition of the Civil Society Academy in Tunis. In 2026, the initiative places a stronger emphasis on German-Arab cooperation and exchange in the field of civil society work.
